This page is still a work in progress,as I need to sort out my various pieces in work which are currently stored on three computers, spread across the UK, and in a lot of notebooks and travel journals – and at the moment my focus is on my academic writing. Most of what I have on-the-go at the moment is travel writing, although there is a third of a novel sitting in a pile of moleskines that I’m aiming to get back to this year – with a much clearer idea of what I want to do and how to do it now I’ve completed one long project in a different discipline.
In the meantime… I used to write for bloc-online back when I was a student at Falmouth (2004-2005). The site has changed a lot, but they still host a few of my pieces. Here is ‘Choosing Camillus‘, a short piece of historical fiction. I still like the idea of the piece quite a lot, and the Medullinus passages don’t make me hide under the bed crying, but I would like to return to it in future, in particular to rewrite the Titus passages. This piece about Rwanda, ‘A New Country‘, was also originally published on bloc back in Autumn 2004.
More recently, I was moved to think about photography and memory after visiting Auschwitz: ‘Documentary Imperative: Some Thoughts on Photography at Auschwitz-Birkenau.’
